Tannehill Furnaces began as a

small forge in 1830. During the

War Between the States (1861-1865)

these furnaces were a major

supplier of iron and munitions

for the Confederacy. When

partially destroyed by Union

troops on March 31, 1865, they

were producing more than

20 tons of pig iron ...
