Tannehill Furnaces

Tannehill Furnaces began as a

small forge in 1830. During the

War Between the States (1861-1865)

these furnaces were a major

supplier of iron and munitions

for the Confederacy. When

partially destroyed by Union

troops on March 31, 1865, they

were producing more than

20 tons of pig iron daily

for the arsenal at Selma.

This marker is dedicated to

the valiant men and women

who served the Confederacy

in this area.

Placed by the Alabama Division

United Daughters of The Confederacy.
