for Distinguished Services Feb. 7th 1863.

(Right):Vice Admiral S. C. Rowan, U.S. NavyAppointed Midshipman, Feb. 1st 1826 while a resident of Piqua. Participated in the Seminole War and in the Mexican War on the Pacific Coast at Monterrey, San Diego and Los Angeles. In the Civil War at Acquia Creek, Fort Hatteras, Roanoke Island, Elizabeth City, New Berne in command of the New Ironsides during the siege of Charleston.
