The Swamp Fox
During the American Revolution, after the fall of Charleston in 1780, Francis Marion burst forth to lead the Williamsburg militia. He was the senior Regimental Continental Officer not captured or paroled. He recruited patriots, ambushed the British and Loyalists as he controlled the supply routes to Camden. As they said in their textbooks, the British lost the war in the South and therefore the Patriots won independence in the Southern Campaign.
