The Great Indian War Trail

A branch of the Great Indian War & Trading Path came up the valley of this creek, named for a Virginia trader killed by Indians in 1775. Col. William Christian's punitive expedition used it in 1776, crossing the French Broad River. John Sevier broke the Indian resistance at Cedar Springs in 1780. First settlers came in 1783.

Marker is on Chapman Highway (U.S. 441) 2 miles south of 411 and 441 (U.S. 411).
