(East Facing Side): Shenandoah County
Area 510 Square Miles
Formed in 1772 from Frederick, and first named Dunmore for Lord Dunmore, Governor of Virginia, 1771-1775. In 1778 the county was renamed for the Shenandoah River.
(West Facing Side): Warren County
Area 216 Square Miles
Formed in 1836 from Frederick and Shenandoah, and named for General Joseph Warren, killed at Bunker Hill, 1775.
Marker is on Strasburg Road / Front Royal Road (State Highway 55), on the right when traveling west.
