Rowe Saw Mill

1865

In the 1860’s there were four saw mills in this area. This display, in honor of his founding fathers, is from the Tom Rowe Saw Mill, and displays how the mill works. The foreman stood in the cage and called out the beam size (8x8, 12x12, etc.) then the cutter set the blade which was on a track, and rode the blade down the track until the beam cut was complete. The beam then went to the mines to build the shafts.

Marker is on Rough and Ready Highway.
