New Yasmeen
The original New Yasmeen Bakery opened in 1986 when two brothers from Lebanon followed the Siblini family tradition of owning bakeries. It was a small, 1,000 square foot building where they only made pita bread. After expanding their menu, New Yasmeen opened in its current location in 1992. The bakery is named after Yasmeen (the Arabic word for jasmine), the Siblini family’s original bakery in Lebanon.
Today, the bakery has expanded from its early roots. The store offers prepared Arab foods with available seating, an array of sweet pastries, a few canned goods, non-alcoholic beer, and a wide selection of breads, including pita ranging from large to mini sized and "mountain" bread.
Here on Warren Ave. in East Dearborn, roughly between Greenfield and Wyoming, you will see that both sides of the avenue are lined with dozens of Arab American-owned businesses: bakeries like New Yasmeen, cafes and restaurants, pharmacies, grocery stores, butcher shops, coffee and nut roasters, clothing stores, hair salons, and doctor’s offices. These shops serve the Arab American community of Dearborn and beyond. Arab Americans from as far away as Flint and Grand Rapids make regular trips to stores like New Yasmeen to stock up on produce and imported groceries from the Arab world.
