National Historic Landmar -Adams Power Plant Transformer House
National Historic Landmark - Adams Power Plant Transformer House
Until well into the 20th century, this electric-power generating facility retained its position as the largest hydroelectric power plant in the world.
The transformer house, built in 1895 from designs by McKim, Mead and White, is the only surviving structure of the plant, which has been hailed as -the birthplace of the modern hydroelectric power station-.
When it became operational, long-distance commercial electrical transmission became a reality.
