Formed in 1653 from Northumberland and King George, and named for an English county. In it were born George Washington, James Monroe, and Robert E. Lee.
Marker is at the intersection of Kings Highway (Virginia Route 3) and Trigger Lane (County Route 683), on the right when traveling west on Kings Highway.
