John Nicholas Building

1886

Called the "New Beer Hall," this single-story, mud-roofed, one-room deep, adobe Sonoran-style house was said to be "the coolest place in town" by owner John Nicholas. In 1890, the Arizona Weekly Enterprise, Florence's second newspaper, leased the building for its printing shop and offices. After 1915, the addition of exterior stucco and a wood-framed, corrugated-metal, gable roof transformed the structure. The building later served as a general store, and became a residence in the 1930s.
