John C. Hutchinson Building
In 1856 John C. Hutchinson purchased 160 acres of land about one mile south of the Village. There was a limestone quarry on this land and lime was being produced from its lime kiln. In 1884 Mr. Hutchinson built this two story building with the first floor exterior walls of thick limestone and the second floor of wood frame construction. In the early 1950’s the building went through a major remodel. The store front was changed to have modern store front windows with glazed tile under them. Due to the original first floor limestone walls, this building was included on the Saratoga Heritage Inventory in 1993.
Marker is at the intersection of Big Basin Way (State Highway 9) and 3rd Street, on the right when traveling west on Big Basin Way.
