James Verree House

c. 1754

This Pre-Revolutionary single house is one of a group of three dwellings including 56 and 60 Church Street built c. 1754 by James Verree, a house carpenter. The Verree House was purchased in 1784 by Thomas Heyward, a signer of the Declaration of Independence. The garden was designed by noted landscape architect Loutrel Briggs in 1942 and was considered his favorite garden.

Marker is on Church Street, on the right when traveling north.
