About 1797, John Gunn, a land agent from Canada, came to the head of McKee's Creek to start a town. His two story log house, licensed as a tavern in 1805, became the county's first hotel.

In 1793, Robert Robitaille established a trading post at Zanetown. He moved to Gunn's Tavern in 1800 where he was buried. His wife, daughter of Myeerah Zane, was an Indian Princess.

Marker is at the intersection of Ludlow Road (County Route 1) and Guntown Road (County Route 29), on the right when traveling south on Ludlow Road.
