George E. P. Smith Residence
Dr. Smith built this house in 1904 in anticipation of his marriage to Maud North, a Tucson teacher. The house, which he designed, was the first building on the north side of Speedway. Dr. Smith was a University of Arizona professor of engineering and physics from 1900-1906, of irrigation engineering from 1906-1955, and emeritus to 1975. He pioneered in measuring Arizona's groundwater and brought recognition to the University as a center for the study of water use in arid lands.

El Profesor Smith construyó esta casa en 1904 en anticipación de su matrimonio con la Señorita Maud North, una maestra de Tucson. La construcción se basó en un diseño del mismo Profesor Smith y la casa fué la primera ubicada en el lado norte de la calle Speedway. Smith ocupaba los puestos de Profesor de Ingeniería y Física (1900-1906) y Profesor de Ingenieriá Hidráulica (1906-1955) en la Universidad de Arizona. Se jubiló en 1955 y sequía como Profesor Emérito hasta su muerte en 1975.
