Ezekiel E. Simpson-St. Michael's Cemetery

Ezekiel Simpson (1803-1875) born on May 27 moved to the area with his family in 1814. In 1840, Ezekiel married Sophia S. Allen of Boston, Massachusetts, and together they had three children, only one of whom survived to adulthood.

After seven years of marriage Sophia died from an illness, and in 1853, Ezekiel married Susan Alexander Overman of Greensboro, North Carolina.

Ezekiel became part owner of the Arcadia Industrial Park, located in the town of Bagdad, which included a lumber mill and textile mill. He was partners with his brother, Andrew, and Joseph Forsyth.

Ezekiel also owned stock in the Pensacola Wharf Company. During the Civil War Ezekiel worked on the homefront for the Confederates. Due to his success in aiding the Confederate cause, the federal government placed a bounty on his head for his capture.

Ezekiel died on April 3, 1875 at the age of seventy-two, his second wife, Susan, died from a long illness in 1920.
