Corner of Highland and Law Street
The three story building on the corner of Law and Highland was built by the Gleason family in 1910. The third floor was the Masonic temple. The building was built on some of the highest ground in the area and still had an artesian well with enough pressure to supply water to the third story restroom. The second floor housed the Gleason brothers land office. The lower floor was the State Bank of Eau Gallie which remained open until the depression in the 1920's.
The house on the northwest side of law street was the Florida East Coast Railway agent's house, built sometime around 1900. S. K. Watts, station agent, and his family lived there.
The Thomas Shave house located at 1695 Highland was built in the folk Victorian style in 1903. Shave owned turpentine stills. The Carter house at 668 Law Street was built around 1900.
Marker is at the intersection of Highland Avenue and Law Street, on the left when traveling north on Highland Avenue.
