Confederate Monument-DeFuniak Springs
Located on the lawn of the county courthouse, the Walton County
Confederate monument is apparently Florida's first stone memorial to the Confederacy. The monument was originally erected in 1871 at the Euchee Valley Presbyterian Church by the Walton County Female Memorial Association at a cost of $250. It was subsequently moved to the county seat of Eucheeanna,
which was the site of a skirmish during the 1864 Union expedition against Marianna. The monument was finally moved to DeFuniak Springs after that community became the new county seat in 1886. The monument lists the names of 94 Confederate war dead from Walton County. A State Historical Marker for "Florida's First Confederate Monument" is located on the courthouse grounds.
