Charles T. Gorham
Gorham (1812-1901) came to Marshall in 1836 from New York State. First a merchant, he became a banker and in 1865 organized the First National Bank of Marshall, now the Michigan National Bank. He was a defendant in the famous Crosswhite fugitive slave case. A vice-president of the first Republican Convention at Jackson in 1854, Gorham later was a state senator. During the 1870s he served the United States as Minister to the Netherlands and then as Assistant Secretary of the Interior.
Marker is on Michigan Avenue (Business Interstate 94), on the right when traveling west.
