This regiment was engaged here at 4 p.m. April 6, 1862. It fell back through its camp at 5 p.m. where it was nearly surrounded and had some men captured. It retired along Pittsburg Road to 2d Iowa camp.
Marker is on Hamburg-Savannah Road ½ mile north of Hamburg-Purdy Road, on the left when traveling north.
