1812 - - Fort Harrison - - 1912

This stone marks the site, and commemorates the One Hundredth Anniversary of the Heroic Defense, of Fort Harrison by a small body of United States Soldiers, assisted by the settlers against the Indians.

September 4, 1812

The Fort was built by William Henry Harrison and at the time of the attack was commanded by Zachary Taylor, both of whom afterwards became Presidents of the United States.

Marker can be reached from McCullough Avenue (becomes 4th Street) north of Fort Harrison Road.
