1797 Portage Path Survey

Trail Stones Identify Portage Path

This series of flat stones has been laid on the ground to mark the actual trail of the Portage Path as it was surveyed by Moses Warren in 1797. From here, the trail winds southwest and then southerly and up the hill through the park. Then North Portage Path and South Portage Path streets generally follow the trail, which continues south across Perkins Park and Wooster Avenue. From there Manchester Road for the most part follows the trail to the original bank of the Tuscarawas River a total distance of 8 miles.

Marker is at the intersection of Portage Path and Merriman Road, on the right when traveling north on Portage Path.
